Let's Get It Started!!!

Well, the time is finally here! Through a lot of prayer, tons of planning, months of five people living in an apartment (with one of them being an energetic 3 year old), we closed on our construction loan about a month and a half ago!
A few months ago, I made a post on Facebook and asked a question about things you would put in a home if you were going to build a new home. The suggestions that were given were awesome, and someone suggested that I start a Facebook page to show the house as it's being built. I tried to start a page for that, but they told me that I needed to be a business to have a page. That's okay. I can add in more words and pictures in a blog. I'm not just going to tell you about the house as it's being built, but I'm also going to tell you what joys and frustrations you will face during the building process.
As we've been going through all of this, it has been stressful, time consuming, and kind of makes you want to choke everyone around, at times. Other times, it is so exciting, because we are getting to build this beautiful home that describes "us". This is our FOREVER earthly home. My husband is from Oklahoma and loves rustic, mountain, hunting, and southwestern type decorations. Not me. Not me at all!!! I am from South Carolina, and I'm southern to the core. In fact, a lot of our decorations have come from Charleston!!! It's not that I don't appreciate the western, hunting, or cowboy type stuff, but it's just not my personality or who I am. Mountain, I can do some of that. So we compromised. There is A LOT of stone and cedar, but I worked with an interior designer (who actually bought our last house, and is TOTALLY worth every dime we are spending to  have her help us), and the entire interior is pretty much done, down to the paint color and kitchen and bathroom fixtures. I was able to choose colors, that I love, that go well with the stone, but also goes with our family's personality, along with our interests. During this time of living five people in one apartment, we have been able to save money, which in turn has helped us start buying furniture. Yes, we've even had time to pick that out. Once piece of advice I did receive from a friend who recently built a home was to wait to pick out accent pieces, like rugs, pillows, etc. until we see the furniture in the rooms.

So now, back to the actual building of the house, THE RAIN!!!! Oh my gosh, THE RAIN!!!! I love rain, but the amount that Texas has actually received this year has been unreal, and in turn, has delayed this project by a ridiculous amount of time. The pad site is there, the plumbing has been roughed in, and then it rains 10 inches, And then it rains a lot of more inches, and it just won't stop. It has rained so much, And it washes out part of the road. And again, no work can be accomplished. The road to the house became so muddy that the concrete trucks were having a hard time getting back to the pad site, and it has just stayed so wet, that they cannot actually pour the concrete for the foundation. Another thing that happened is that the boards that outlined the area for the foundation were not high enough, so the concrete guys had to come back out and make them higher. I'm not going to lie. It has been frustrating, but we know that it will all be worth it once the house is actually finished. I'm posting pictures of the pad site along with the plumbing being roughed in. Hopefully soon, I can show the foundation being poured. Y'all say some prayers! :)
